PTA Presidents' Message

Dear Mountain View Families,

As we roll into November, we continue to be amazed at the willingness of our families to give of themselves to make our school great! Here are some recent examples of such overwhelming efforts:

Sally Foster Fundraiser
Despite tough economic times, our families stepped up to buy and sell the fabulous Sally Foster products, raising more than $16,000 for our school. As you may know, this fundraiser provides the greatest portion of our annual PTA budget. Your participation allows us to fund all of our committees and their programs, and to provide the curriculum support to each grade level and specialty area. A special thanks goes to Laurie Dirksen for coordinating the Sally Foster sales program, including putting together fliers, calculating and distributing prizes, receiving and processing orders, and distributing the products. This was an extraordinary effort, so please join us in thanking Laurie when you see her.

Fall Festival
We had an enormous turnout for the Fall Festival on Oct. 2. People of all ages enjoyed the games, pony rides, petting zoo, cake walk, western costume contest, chili cook-off, the teachers' “jail,” and dancing in the gym. We were also lucky to have the wonderful craft show vendors to sell their wares. Special thanks go to Carey DeLucca and Jeannine Brock for planning and coordinating the unique event. These ladies produced creative fliers, secured the vendors, worked hard to coordinate the space requirements, and organized volunteers for the evening. Please make an effort to thank them.

In conjunction with the Fall Festival, the Fifth-Grade committee successfully raised money by selling food from Chick fil-A, Domino’s Pizza, Rita’s, candy at the General Store, and popcorn. Please help us thank the entire committee, especially chairs and event helpers: Lucy Crabtree, Rebecca Helms, Susan Tucker and Gillian Hicks. Thanks also to the fifth-grade students who sold food!

Book Fair
The Scholastic Book fair kicked off the evening of the Fall Festival and ran through the subsequent week. Joyce Quinet worked closely with Carol McDonald from the media center to coordinate volunteers to work during book fair hours, and to set up and break down the event. The result was an enormous success. Thanks to Joyce and those of you who volunteered time and who purchased books and other items to support our school.

Walk to School Day
Despite last-minute maneuvering to avoid the rain, we had 396 students (49 percent of enrollment), plus 150 adults and siblings participate in this event. Thanks for participating and helping to make this a success. Special thanks to Ben West and his helpers for making this a much-anticipated student event!

These examples do not include all the hard work being done everyday by the school store volunteers, the copying committee volunteers, the room parents and coordinators, and others! As you can see, we are fortunate to have such a great school community. Thank you again for your time and participation!
